Our Story

Wombat Safety Software was founded in 2021 by Ron deBruyne, a veteran software builder with deep roots in safety. Serving organizations across the United States and Canada, Wombat supports construction, manufacturing, and municipal clients in simplifying safety and compliance management.

 Before Wombat, Ron spent 25 years building Helm Operations, the leading maritime software provider in North America. There, he learned a simple truth: end users aren’t software experts. They need tools that just work, simple, practical, and human. When Ron tried retirement, it didn’t stick. He knew there was more to do, this time expanding safety software to new industries. That’s how Wombat was born: software that makes safety simple, practical, and human.

At Wombat, we believe software should work for the user, not against them. That’s why we created the 12 Second Rule™.Here’s how it works: if a user gets stuck in the software for more than 12 seconds, it’s not their fault, it’s ours. We redesign. Every feature goes through this test with real world users before it’s ever put into production. This rule keeps us honest and ensures our platform is something workers in the field and managers in the office actually want to use.

When he’s not dreaming up ways to make safety simple, you’ll find him outdoors, enjoying life on the water, or planning the next big idea.
